Hello Achievers,

Next Important Date: Nov 23rd (Tuesday) – General Meeting

The first student trip is less than a month away, please mark your calendar to attend the general meeting on Nov 23rd.  Bring your membership forms/fees, evaluation forms, and trip forms.  If you’re planning on staying at Viewpoint condo, they are now requiring that we provide at least 2 weeks notice; as such, we have to get your reservation and payment by Nov 23rd.  We’re working on updating the trip forms, that will be forthcoming shortly.

Please remember membership forms are due now, you can send the forms and payment to Karen Lunzman, or scan your forms and send via email. (or drop them off at the General Meeting)

If you are a new “instructor”, please remember you’ll need to go through a background check; the cost is paid by the group, and it’s easy as clicking on a link, and putting in the below registration number. This needs to be done every two years.  Please do this as early as possible as the process can take 30 days. http://www.ncsisafe.com/ Enter self registration number: 29771900

Picnic Pictures

October 4th, 2010

I did not have a chance to make it to the picnic this year, but I understand it was well attended by a lot of new members as well as some returning. Gary, Pat & a few others did a great job putting everything together at Pat’s place this year. Karen sent over some picture, check them out below.

Hello Achievers,

                This is to remind you that we are having a general meeting this week in preparation for the upcoming trip on December 11-13th. The meeting is going to be 7PM on Wednesday evening the 25th at the Fullerton Children’s League Center. We will have Membership & Trip forms there if you need them, as well as cookies & refreshments. This is the first student trip of the season so if you have not yet had a student evaluation this would be a good time to get one.

Fullerton Children’s League Center
2050 Youth Way
Fullerton, CA 92835

If you cannot make the meeting & want to go on the trip please be sure to drop Mike an email to let him know at gm_watts@msn.com . You will need to mail him the trip form.

Trip & Membership Forms

There have been some changes to the student trips requirements this year due to a slowdown in fundraising, you can read more here in an article from Mac .

November 4th General Meeting Canceled

November 2nd, 2009

Our Instructor trip is coming up on the weekend of Nov 20-22, this trip is 3 days of Instructor clinics in preparation for the season ahead. The trip hinges on the conditions at Mammoth, they opened for a few days in the middle of October & then had to close after a heat spell. The temp has dropped again, & they are back to making snow. The rumor is that they expect to open back up this Saturday Nov the 7th, possibly top to bottom at the main lodge.

We are going to have to cancel our scheduled general meeting this Wednesday the 4th because the Children’s League in Fullerton is not available. The trip is still on unless we hear different from Mammoth. We ask that you to contact Mike Watts if you are planning on making the trip. The trip form is attached with Mike’s address on it…also make sure you have your membership forms completed and into Karen, her address in on the membership form.

If anybody knows of a place to hold our general meetings we are open to suggestions. These meetings are not typically very large and they don’t run late. We just need a place, preferably in Central OC, for potential new members to come & meet with us before we all head for the hill. If you have any ideas please contact Mac at teamcasey@sbcglobal.net

DSUSA-OC Dryland Clinic & Kickoff Picnic

October 15th, 2009

Good Morning Achievers,

            The snow is falling ….and Mammoth is opening tomorrow! So the topic of discussion at last nights general meeting was whether it was better to leave at 2 or 3 in the morning in order to make it there for hot chocolate & first tracks with Wooly.

For those of us who aren’t ready to start the season just yet & would like a little warmup we are having the Dryland Clinic and the Picnic on Saturday October the 24th.

Dryland Clinic

            The Dryland is going to be in Newport Beach in the Fashion Island complex. It will start at 8:30 with a breakfast hosted by us & then move into the class at 9:00 which will cover;

· Introduction to Adaptive Snowsports (for new recruits; review/participation for returning)

· Movement Analysis

· Teaching Tips

The location is;

START Physical Therapy

360 San Miguel Ave,  Suite 301

Newport Beach,  CA    92660

It is OK to park anywhere it says “Patient parking” in the lot or parking structure. From elevators, turn right down the hallway, right at the next hallway. Suite 301 is the last door on the left.

Please RSVP to Karey or if you have any questions at kareykus@mac.com for the Dryland.

Kickoff Picnic

            This year the picnic location has changed, it is going to be held in Irvine, not far from the dryland clinic. If you know any potential students or instructors who might be interested in joining us, bring them along. This is a great time to introduce them to the group. We will have all the necessary membership paperwork for students & instructors. It will run from 12-4 & we will of course provide the hotdogs, hamburgers & soft drinks, if you would like to bring a side dish we would appreciate it.

A-L   –  Side Dish

M-Z  –  Dessert

The picnic will be in the vicinity of the 405 & Culver Dr. at;

3754 Hamilton Ave.

Irvine, CA

The easiest way to get there from the dryland clinic is to go north on Macarthur & make a right on Bonita Canyon Rd., this turns into Culver. Make the first left after the 405 onto Ferris, then make a left at the end on Wayne, make a right on Huron. At the end you can go either way to a cul-de-sac next to the park.

It looks like you can park on the street & the picnic will be behind the clubhouse. Please RSVP by replying to this email or you can contact Gary at gkonecne@gmail.com if you have any questions.

First General Meeting for 2009-10

October 10th, 2009

Hello Achievers,

I hope everyone that made it to the Angels game had a good time, it’s an exciting time of year …GO Red Sox!….oops…I mean Angels (Casey knows I had it right the first time). Our schedule this year has had a few changes & because of this the Dryland Clinic & DSUSA-OC Kickoff Picnic are both going to be on October 24. The Clinic will be in the morning…and the picnic in the afternoon. I will pass along all the details in a followup email.

This email is to invite everyone to our first General Meeting prior to the Dryland Clinic. Come join us to catch up with everybody while you are signing up for the clinic…and eating cookies. We will have the meeting this Wednesday the 14th at the Children’s League in Fullerton, this is in the shadow of St. Judes Hospital at Harbor & Bastanchury. Here is the actual address;

Fullerton Children’s League Center
2050 Youth Way
Fullerton, CA 92835

Date: Wed Oct 14th

Time: 7PM

When you make the right on E. Valencia Mesa you will quickly make a right where it appears to end…follow the row of buildings down to the parking lot. We will be in the building next to the parking lot.

Hope to see you there!
