State of the Club

December 27th, 2011

From the President,

Hello My Fellow Achievers!

What a great trip! Those of us who were lucky enough to make the trip were treated to a great time of fellowship and, of course, snow skiing and boarding with students, instructors and family. Though snow coverage was limited across the mountain, the runs that were open had good conditions across the board thanks to the efforts of the Mammoth snow making and grooming crews. My hat is off to them for providing such excellent conditions with largely man-made snow. We also enjoyed near perfect weather, with cloudless skies and very little wind for the entire week-end.

Two new students, Brent Olsen and Cody Alarcon made a proud Achiever’s debut as a second time skier and first time snow boarder respectively. Karey Kusuhara did double duty with making instructor assignments and leading clinics, doing an excellent job training our instructors in a variety of techniques and equipment that are used with the students and disabilities that we serve.

As we end the year and enjoy time with family and friends during this holiday season, I would like to thank all of you who make this great adventure possible. The generosity of our donors is a constant source of amazement and gratitude to me. Without them, we would have no program.

While on this trip, it occurred to me how lucky I am to be a part of a group of such talented, caring and committed individuals who volunteer to comprise our instructor corps. I am honored to be their peer and humbled to be their president.

As I have said before, the individuals who comprise your board are second to none. Also talented, caring and committed, they are also people I consider to be life-long friends.   Finally, I would like to thank our students and their families for allowing us to ski with them. There are few things I have experienced in my life that seem to match the joy I have found in snow skiing. Being a part of this group, and being allowed to share that joy with others in a safe, fun and professional manner means more to me than I can adequately share in words. I am constantly amazed at what our students a capable of, and the many different ways our instructors help them accomplish what many people might deem impossible.

Our next General Meeting that will be held on Wednesday December 28th at the REI store in Tustin.  Our next trip will be on January 6-8, 2012. Please get your reservations in as soon as possible for upcoming trips. Also, we have a donor who is willing to help fund transportation costs including renting a van to help get students and members to the mountain. Watch for future announcements. If you are interested in riding in a van, or if cost is an issue for participation, please let us know.

Once again, thank you for allowing me to serve as your president. I wish you all a happy and joyous holiday season, with hopes for a happy and prosperous new year.

Looking forward to seeing you on the slopes.   Think Snow!!!!!!!
